Love Songs and Time Obsession
I'm porting over some posts from the message board about my thoughts on how the great love songs typically feature some obsession with the passage of time, as well as a need to escape from time. Time here represents the rational. In searching for unity (in the Jungian sense) and love the characters in these songs must forsake the rational for a true, interior, understanding of who they are. This means leaving time behind. But, as we all know, so many love songs are about lost love, so these songs often feature people who cannot only not escape time, but become obsessed with it. They want to relive the moments of their love, which has completely evaporated. Below I'll post each song individually in some sort of progression.
